Shillong: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma laid the foundation stone for an indoor training stadium in the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) complex on Thursday evening.

Sangma, who claims to be a cricket lover himself, informed the gathering about the government identifying land for setting up a state-of-the-art international standard stadium while developing sports facilities.

The occasion was attended by former Indian team captain Sourav Ganguly, who appreciated the beauty of Meghalaya. Ganguly said, “Shillong is one of the prettiest places in the east.” He further added, “The region is full of potential; all that it needs is the right amount of exposure.”

He also made an appeal to the CM for assuring guaranteed support for the growth of the sport in the state.

The Meghalaya state team will be playing its first Ranji Trophy season on their home ground against Arunachal Pradesh. The four-day match will start from November 1.
