Property worth crores gutted, claim shopkeepers; police suspect short circuit to be behind incident
Agartala: Close to a dozen shops were razed to the ground after a massive fire broke out in the prominent Battala market of Agartala, the capital city of Tripura.
Although the reason behind the massive fire is yet to be ascertained, the police suspect the role of a short circuit behind the incident. Property worth crores have been gutted, claimed shopkeepers.
Soon after the incident, CM Biplab Kumar Deb along with MLA Asish Kumar Saha visited the site and assured full support and compensation to the affected people.
While talking to EastMojo, a shopkeeper said he incurred losses amounting to as much as Rs 15 lakh. “I had garments and fruits stored for the Diwali season. I also had some cash. They have all been burnt to ashes,” he added.
However the Shopkeepers demanded full compensation from the government as soon as possible, most of them are clueless what they do next as the shops were the only way of earning their bread and butter.
