Govt introduces new bus services from the capital city to six hill areas of state

Imphal: Manipur CM N Biren Singh on Wednesday flagged off six new bus routes to connect Imphal with remote hill towns of the state.

The new routes will provide bus services to Jessami in Ukhrul district, Kamjong in Kamjong district, Khoupum in Noney district and Nungba, Tamei and Tamenglong in Temenglong district.

The bus services will operate from at the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Khuman Lampak, Imphal, and will be available from Monday to Saturday.

Along with the new bus routes, the transport department also introduced the Imphal-Airport bus service which will be available during weekdays except on Sundays and holidays.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, state transport commissioner M Lakshmikumar said, “the Manipur State Transport (MST) has so far transported 3,85,160 passengers and earned Rs 1.63 crore in the last 382 days till October 20. The annual revenue of the department is around Rs 35-40 crore a year.”

The MST was re-introduced this year after the government ceased its operations in 2003.
