Kohima: Dreamz Unlimited, a Nagaland-based YouTuber, has taken the state, particularly its youth, by storm, quite literally. Making its debut in 2016, the channel has already broken the record of having attracted 100,000 subscribers — the highest by any YouTuber from Nagaland, and the third highest in Northeast India.
Dreamz Unlimited specialises in raising important contemporary issues pertaining to the state, while using a blend of humour and satirical commentary.
Based in Aoyimti village of Dimapur, Dreamz Unlimited has to its credit more than 80 video publications on YouTube, with over 1,22,000 subscribers, and nearly 40,000 followers on Instagram, and counting.
Looking back at their journey so far, Tiakumzuk Aier, director of Dreamz Unlimited, told EastMojo, “The initial days were full of struggle, we had to deal with a lot of criticism. But, we didn’t lose hope and sustained somehow. Now we are a team of ten, and are more than happy to receive the love and support from the society.”
Dreamz Unlimited debuted on the video-sharing website YouTube with Watery Solution on December 22, 2016. Here’s the video:
While looking for stories, if a member happens to stumble upon a good idea, the entire team gets together to materialise it. Aier, however, points out that preparing a video story is not always an easy task, owing to the ‘limits of imagination’, and this is where they allow their imagination to ‘run wild’.
The popularity and following of the channel is such that all of its videos attract an average viewership of around 200,000, with some its most popular videos being ‘Lie Detector Machine’, ‘How to deal with angry girlfriend’, among several others. Besides the widely popular ‘Hoishey Series,’ a two-part short film series, ‘The Demand’ and ‘The Demand 2 – Sleep of Death’, have also made their mark among its viewers.
Here are a few of their popular videos:
Talking about their videos, Aier says, “Although, each of our videos is special, the ones like Lie Detector Machine, The Demand and Super Mom have been the most memorable ones so far.”
Apart from being a source of entertainment, the channel also plays an important role in spreading awareness regarding government schemes, while providing a platform to local enterprises for their promotion in the absence of a satellite channel in the state. Besides video and filmmaking, the team also loves performing on stage at local events, where they feel they can realise their ‘potential’.
Their passion in entertaining and enlightening minds has not only garnered mass attention but has facilitated them to open a Drama and Film School in Dimapur, a first of its kind in the state, which offers courses on the nuances of media. Video editing, acting, recording arts, photography, music and dance courses are offered.
With nearly a decade of experience in theatre and filmmaking, the Dreamz Unlimited team urges the youth to patiently discipline oneself towards one’s goal and that hard work never goes wasted.
During the interaction, the YouTubers signed off by saying, “We have come a long way, but we have a long road ahead of us. Our dreams should be unlimited.”
