Trials will begin at the Sivasagar court of district and sessions judge on November 12

Sivasagar, Assam: The hearing procedure in the Simaluguri rape-and-murder case began at the Sivasagar court of district and sessions judge on Thursday.

On July 10, a 19-year-old girl was found dead in one of the toilets of the Dibrugarh-Rangiya Express. The victim, a student of the Assam Agriculture University in Jorhat, was allegedly raped and killed on board.

As per reports, the victim was traveling to her uncle’s place when she was raped and killed inside the moving train. Her body was recovered in a semi-clad state in a pool of blood inside one of the toilets at Simaluguri railway station in Sivsagar.

Soon after the incident, the police arrested Bipin Pandey and Bipin Das, who later confessed to their crime.

The court proceedings began after the railway police submitted 207-page-long charge sheet on September 27. The charge sheet was filed after 74 days of the crime.

On the first day of the proceedings, the special public prosecutor said that the case has been filed under 302, 302/34 and 376d of the IPC. The public prosecutor also said that the judgment is expected to be delivered within six months. He also added that the prosecution will try to hold day-to-day trial and get a speedy judgment. The trials will begin on November 12.

Speaking to EastMojo, the victim’s mother demanded a speedy justice for her daughter.
