The home ministry has not made any assurance regarding implementation of NRC in Tripura, a statement released by the home ministry clarified

Agartala: Amid news reports of likely implementation of NRC in Tripura, a statement released by the Union home ministry has clarified that the Centre has no such plans for the state.

A similar exercise is being carried out in neighbouring Assam to identify illegal immigrants.

A delegation of the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT), led by its president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, had met home minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday. However, the home ministry has not made any assurance to the delegation regarding implementation of NRC in the state, said the statement.

The statement also claimed the report as ‘absolutely incorrect and mischievous’.

Confirming the same to EastMojo, Hrangkhawl said that the home minister had said that once the NRC process gets over in Assam, they might consider implementation of NRC in Tripura, “However, he never claimed that NRC would be implemented in the state right away,” he clarified.
