Hailakandi: An unarmed branch (UB) constable of the Assam police, Rajesh Baidya, was allegedly caught on camera taking bribe from a National Register of Citizens (NRC) data operator in Hailakandi district of Assam on Friday morning.
According to allegations, the constable is said to collect Rs 300 to Rs 400 for providing quick verification and clearance of documents belonging to NRC applicants that are submitted by NRC data operators in the area. The incident occurred at the SK Roy Civil Hospital in Hailakandi, where NRC documents are processed.
NRC workers also alleged that no action has been initiated by the police even after intimation regarding such incidents. Meanwhile, the UB constable has been suspended and investigations are on.
