Union Minister Shripad Naik injured in road mishap, wife and aide killed
Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik and his wife met with a road accident in Hillur-Hosakambi village in Ankola taluk, Karnataka on Monday. While the North Goa MP is in critical condition, his wife and an aide died in the accident.
Naik is said to be in a stable condition.
He was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital late night for further treatment.
According to reports, Naik was travelling with five others - his wife Vijaya, personal assistant Deepak, a gunman, a confidante and driver. They were travelling in a car through a village of Uttara Kannada district when the driver appeared to have lost control, skidded and went off the road and rammed into a roadside tree.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to ensure proper arrangements and provide the best treatment.
Singh will visit Goa on Tuesday to inquire about the health and treatment of Naik.
