Arunachal: Gen Bipin Rawat reviews military preparedness in border areas

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat’s visit to key locations in the frontier state came amid the nearly eight-month-long Sino-India border standoff in eastern Ladakh

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, on Sunday, reviewed the country’s security preparedness in several forward bases near the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh.

General Rawat had arrived in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday to visit the key locations in the frontier state amid the nearly eight-month-long Sino-India border standoff in eastern Ladakh.

At the end of his two-day visit, General Bipin Rawat said he was highly impressed and satisfied with the high morale and motivation of the armed forces. He added that their confidence could defeat any nefarious designs of the adversary.

He also complimented the soldiers for adopting innovative surveillance measures through locally-developed technology and the defence preparedness to face any challenge.

He also visited several key installations including posts in Dibang Valley, Lohit sector and Subansiri valley, and met with soldiers of the Indian Army and the Indian-Tibetan Border Police.

General Rawat’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh coincided with his completion of one year as India's first Chief of Defence Staff, a post which was created to bring in convergence in the functioning of the Army, the Navy and the Indian Air Force in dealing with national security challenges.

The Army and the Indian Air Force have been maintaining a high state of operational readiness along the nearly 3,500-km Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China in following the standoff in eastern Ladakh.
