Temple kissing scene between Hindu-Muslim couple causes outrage, #BoycottNetflix trends
Continuing the boycott trend and the daily ritual of getting offended at Hindu-Muslim romance, #BoycottNetflix has caused a storm on Twitter on Sunday.
With over 80,000 tweets so far, netizens are raging over Mira Nair's mini-series A Suitable Boy as in one of the scenes, the characters played by Tanya Maniktala and Kabir Durrani are seen kissing in a temple. While the former’s character is a Hindu, the latter’s character was a Muslim.
This has irked the social media folks who are claiming the scene as intentional disrespect for Hinduism.
Gaurav Goel, BJP spokesperson joined the ‘#BoycottNetflix’ trend. He said, "If any OTT platform is delibrately insulting the Hindu Gods & Goddess, pls file the complaint with the police or local court under Section 295A of IPC. The law will take care of such offenders."
Joining the league, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra reacted to the controversy. Through a video shared on Twitter, he said that he has ordered police authorities to look into the "objectionable" content of the OTT series.
Twitterati have also expressed their anger. A critic wrote, "It`s not the first time. It won`t be the last. Time and again Netflix has shown it`s hαte towards Sanatan Dharma. Do we need such propaganda in the name of freedom of speech. It is time we take a stand."
While another said, How dare @NetflixIndia showed this disgraceful act?? Is this for what temples are there?? Shameful!! Pouting facePouting face. Delete this scene immediately."
Twitterati also highlighted the flip side of Indian temples where boast of times carvings. "Those who supported the Rapists in Kashmir when asifa brutally Raped in the temple Wants to #BoycottNetflix Those who are engrossed in nudity and nakedness by culture, they are calling for #BoycottNetflixIndia"
