Arnab Goswami gets interim bail from Supreme Court

A two-judge bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee pulled up the Maharashtra government over Goswami’s arrest

In the latest update to the Arnab Goswami case, the Republic TV editor-in-chief and two others were granted interim bail by the Supreme Court. The senior journalist and two others were arrested last week in connection to the abetment of the suicide case of architect Anvay Naik and his mother.

A two-judge bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee pulled up the Maharashtra government over Goswami’s arrest.

Goswami’s plea before the Apex court stated that his arrest was "illegal, mala-fide and politically motivated as evident from the multifarious proceedings initiated against him, his news channels, Republic and Republic Bharat at the behest of the political dispensation."

Goswami was sent to 14-day judicial custody on November 4 after being arrested by the Raigad police from his house in Mumbai following a two-year-old suicide abetment case by interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik at Alibag.
