Visa and travel restrictions eased by the government with immediate effect

The MHA also announced giving permission to all OCI and PIO cardholders and all other foreign nationals to visit India for any purpose other than tourism

Almost eight months after the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) further relaxed visa restrictions on Thursday.

Foreigners can now visit India for business, conference, employment, education, research and medical purposes. Except for electronic tourist visa on arrival, short-term medical visa, there are no restrictions.

Visa services were suspended since February 2020.

All Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders and other foreign nationals intending to visit India for any purpose, except tourism, are allowed to enter by air or water routes through authorised airports and seaport immigration check posts. All the passengers will have to strictly stick to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding quarantine and COVID-19 matters.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has been allowing limited operations of Air India flights under the ‘Vande Bharat’ mission, air transport bubble arrangements, and any non-scheduled commercial flights.
