Lockdown may have been over, but the virus is still there: PM Modi's address to nation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his seventh address to the nation since the lockdown, updated the citizens about the current scenario of the COVID-19 outbreak in the nation. He stated that one must not be negligent of the COVID-19 safety protocols just because the restrictions have been curbed.
Here are the excerpts from his live address.
At the very onset, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that in the fight against COVID-19 the people of India have come a long way from the curfew till today.
He added, “Economic activities are also increasing rapidly over time. Most of us are stepping out of our homes every day to fulfill our responsibilities, to speed up life again. This season of festivals is also slowly returning to the markets”
However, on a grave note, the PM raised concerns about the increasing negligence towards the deadly virus. Stating that even though the lockdown is over, the virus is not. “In the last 7-8 months, due to the efforts of every Indian, we should not let the deteriorating situation in which India is today,” he added.
Comparing the fatality rates of different countries including America, Brazil, Spain, etc. Modi stated that India is faring far better than them. Stating that the recovery rate of the country is good with a low fatality rate he adds, “India is succeeding in saving the lives of more and more of its citizens than the resource-rich countries of the world. The growing number of tests has been a major strength in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.”
“5,500 people out of every 10 lakh in India are infected, whereas in countries like the US & Brazil this figure is around 25,000. The fatality rate in India is 83 out of every 10 lakh population in India, whereas it is more than 600 in countries like the US, Brazil, Spain, Britain,” he added. Talking about the figures in India, more than 10 crore tests have been conducted so far and over 2,000 COVID-19 labs are operational. And over 90 lakhs beds are available and over 12,000 quarantine centres are there in the country he added.
The PM also lauded the untiring efforts of doctors, nurses, health workers who are selflessly serving such a large population. Hence, he added that amid all these efforts, “this is not the time to be careless. This is not the time to assume that the corona is gone, or there is no danger from the corona now.” The fact that the people of India is violating the safety norms of COVID-19 is something which is seen by the minister in various pictures and videos, and “This is not right,” Modi adds.
“If you are careless, leaving out without a mask, you are putting yourself, your family, your family's children, the elderly in as much trouble,” he stated. He warns the viewers about the sudden rise of COVID-19 positive cases in America and other European countries who previously recorded a dip in such cases.
“Until success is achieved, do not be negligent, until the vaccine of this epidemic comes, we should not let our fight with corona weaken,” warns Modi
He even talked about the vaccines being developed in several countries including India. Several corona vaccines are currently in operation in India and some of these are in advanced stage informed the PM. He further added that the Government of India is thinking of ways to provide vaccines to every citizen of India. “Remember, no laxity until the medicine is done,” he added.
Wearing of masks, washing hands with soap periodically and two yards of distance is the only saving grace as of now said Modi ending the seventh address to the nation.
