Air Force Day: IAF captivates skies on 88th anniversary

Air Force Day is celebrated to mark the day when the Indian Air Force was established in 1932

October 8 marks the 88th anniversary of Indian Air Force (IAF), also known as IAF Day. To commemorate the occasion, IAF is showcasing its air power at Air Force Station Hindan (Ghaziabad) near Delhi on Thursday. However, this year is special as the new inductee- Rafale is set to join in, in the magnificient air displays.

Air Force Day is celebrated to mark the day when the IAF was established in 1932.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter to greet IAF on the occasion. He said, "You don't just protect the country's skies, but in times of disaster play a crucial role in serving humanity."

Calling the IAF a lethal and formidable force to reckon with, Defence miister Rajnath Singh tweeted, "The Nation is proud of its men and women in blue and salutes the prowess of the IAF as it stands ready to face challenges and deter adversaries. We remain committed to enhancement of IAF's combat capability through modernisation and indigenisation."

He added, "I am confident that the IAF will always guard the Nation's skies, come what may. Here's wishing you blue skies and happy landings always."

President Ramnath Kovind launded IAF's ongoing process of modernisation with induction of Rafale, Apache and Chinook. He said, "The nation remains indebted to the contribution of the IAF in securing our skies and assisting civil authorities in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief."
