Army averts Pulwama-type attack in J&K; 52 kg of explosives recovered

The Indian Army on Thursday was able to discover 53 kilograms of explosives in Jammu and Kashmir’s Karewa area thereby averting a major disaster. The spot where the explosives were found was very close to the highway and was also near the site of 2019’s Pulwama attack where over 40 soldiers lost their lives.

A statement by the Army said that a joint search operation at 8 am on Thursday, September 17 at the Karewa area of Gadikal resulted in the revelation of a Syntex tank that was buried in an orchid. A total of about 52kgs of explosives was found in the water tank and there were also 416 packets of explosives with 125 gm in each. Additionally, further searches led to another such tank with 50 detonators.

According to the officers, the explosives are commonly called “Super 90.” Moreover, the spot where the explosives were found is quite close to the highway and also just nine kilometers from the 2019 Pulwama attack site. Many army officials also stated that they have averted yet another Pulwama-type attack.

On February 14 of 2019, a suicide bomber had rammed a car laden with explosives into a CRPF convoy in Pulwama which killed 40 soldiers. This was one of the deadliest attacks in Kashmir in recent years. Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) took responsibility for the attack and 12 days after the attack, India’s warplanes pounded a JeM terrorist camp. This camp was deep inside Pakistan and had triggered massive tension between the two countries.
