Govt released a grant of Rs 54.62 cr to help artists during this pandemic

New Delhi: To help the artists who faced financial crisis and lost their livelyhood, the ministry of culture released various grants amounting to Rs 54.62 cr. The grants were given to artists under various central sector schemes. This was informed by the minister of state for Culture and Tourism, Prahlad Singh in parliament.

Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) were provided financial assistance of Rs. 927.83 lakh to the artists. The Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA) organised various programmes in the current pandemic. The minister informed that a number of artists from various genres benefitted from these virtual activities:

Akademi organised 32 webinars by which 32 artists benefited monetarily. Through Deeksha, an online training series Rs 11 lakh was released to senior artists, gurus and their accompanists.

Rs 16.00 lakh was given to the artists who participated in Yog Parv - a festival of music, dance, drama, folk & tribal arts and puppetry.

Organisations under the Ministry of Culture also organised online programmes.

Seven Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) under Ministry of Culture organised online programmes for folk and tribal artists to showcase their talents through webinars, workshops, live performances on social media handles like Facebook etc.

Financial assistance is extended to artists as per the existing norms and rates fixed by ZCCs as remuneration for the programmes. The minister also informed that helplines were opened to enable artists to receive maximum benefit from the ministry schemes.

From October onwards, Sangeet Natak Akademi will organise virtual festivals of music, dance, drama, folk & tribal and puppetry besides the festivals in physical from January, 2021.
