Mumbai: A retired Naval officer was allegedly beaten by Shiv Sena party workers for forwarding a cartoon of Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray to his residential society's WhatsApp group
Six men have been arrested by the police in connection with the attack on the 65-year old Madan Sharma. As per reports among the arrested, two have been identified as Shiv Sena 'Shakha Pramukhs'. The arrested accused have been identified as Kamlesh Kadam, 39, Sanjay Manjre, 52, Rakesh Belnekar 31, Pratap Sund Vera, 45, Sunil Desai, 42 and Rakesh Mulik 35. Kadam and Manjre are reportedly 'Shakha Pramukhs' with Shiv Sena.
The retired defence personnel said that he was attacked by eight to ten men after he had received threatening calls for a message that he had forwarded. He has sustained an eye injury in the assault. The entire incident was recorded on a security camera. The incident took place in Lokhandwala Complex area in suburban Kandivali.
The CCTV footage that has been making rounds on the internet shows the former officer being dragged by his shirt and while being pounded by a group of men wearing masks.
Former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, posted a photo of an injured Madan Sharma and tweeted, "Extremely sad and shocking incident. Retired Naval Officer got beaten up by goons because of just a whatsApp forward. Please stop this Gunda Raj Uddhav Thackeray ji. We demand strong action and punishment to these goons."
Another BJP MLA, Atul Bhatkhalkar has condemned the act and have pointed fingers at the state CM Uddhav Thackeray, "Shiv Sena shows their masculinity by demolishing actor Kangana Ranaut's office and now they have attacked a retired naval officer Madan Sharma severely damaging his meanwhile the Chief Minister is running fascism sitting at home," the MLA from Mumbai's Kandivali East constituency tweeted in Hindi.
