Mumbai Police arrested a Kolkata youth named Palash Ghosh, a resident of Tollygunge, for allegedly threatening Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut over internet phone call. Palash reportedly used the name of Kangana Ranaut while threatening Raut.
Palash was apprehended after his IP address was traced back to his home by Mumbai Police.
"Right now, we only have the information that this person was arrested for threatening Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut. What exactly is the reason for arresting him all of a sudden coming from Mumbai to Kolkata, we don't know. We can comment only after seeing the remand," said advocate Anirban Guhathakurta, who represents the accused.
Earlier today, Guhathakurta said in a statement: "Palash Ghosh, a resident of Tollygunge, has been arrested yesterday night by Mumbai police allegedly for a threat call to MP Sanjay Routh of Shiv Sena.. It has been alleged that Palash is a supporter of Kangana, and so this threat call. He will be produced at Alipore Court for transit remand at 1pm today."
The Mumbai police are currently trying to find out if Palash shares any connection with kangana Ranaur and what might have led him to allegedly threaten Sanjay Raut using the actress's name.
The Mumbai police is going to apply for a transit remand to take Palash to Mumbai for further investigation into the matter.
Palash's arrest has come at a time when there are increasing tensions between Shiv Sena and Kangana Ranaut on her remarks of comparing Mumbai with Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Following her remarks against Shiv Sena, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had demolished a part of Kangana's office in Bandra West.
