Rajnath Singh meets Iranian counterpart; talks on bilateral cooperation, security issues

Singh and Brigadier General Amir Hatami exchanged views on regional security issues, including peace and stability in Afghanistan

Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh met his IRanian counterpart Brigadier General Amir Hatami in Tehran on Saturday. The duo discussed about taking forward bilateral cooperation between the two nations, and exchanged views on regional security issues, including peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Singh tweeted, "Had a very fruitful meeting with Iranian defence minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami in Tehran. We discussed regional security issues including Afghanistan and the issues of bilateral cooperation."

"Both the leaders emphasized upon the age-old cultural, linguistic and civilizational ties between India and Iran," said a release from Defence ministry.

Singh held a meeting with Iran's minister of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics, at the latter's request. He was on his way back to New Delhi from Moscow, after attending Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Upon the request of Chinese Defence Minister Wei Fenghi, Singh also met with him on the sidelines of the SCO meet in the Russian capital.

He categorically conveyed India’s position on the developments along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), including in the Galwan valley in the Western Sector of the India-China Border Areasin the last few months.
