Guwahati: August 24 marks the first death anniversary of the former union finance minister Arun Jaitley. Remembering him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I miss my friend a lot."

Tweeting a video of a prayer meeting held in Jaitley's memory, Modi wrote, "On this day, last year, we lost Shri Arun Jaitley Ji. I miss my friend a lot.

Arun Ji diligently served India. His wit, intellect, legal acumen and warm personality were legendary.

Under the BJP stalwart, India got its new indirect taxation system- Goods and Services Tax.

Jaitley had died due to multiple organ failure at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi last year, two weeks after he was hospitalised over complaints of breathlessness.

Rememering him on his first anniversary, his son Rohan Jaitley tweeted, "It’s been a year since you left us, dad @arunjaitley. In many ways, it feels like it was just yesterday. The pain is still as fresh. But so is my resolve to live by your values, principles and vision. You are always with us. So missed, so loved."

His daughter, Sonali Jaitley Bakhshi all tweeted. She wrote, "Today marks one year without my father, @arunjaitley.

Do I miss him? Yes.

Do I miss his presence? Never, for he is always with me.

I love you, dad - thanks for everything."

Many senior politicians paid homage to the former union minister. Union home minister Amit Shah wrote, "Remembering Arun Jaitley ji, an outstanding politician, prolific orator and a great human being who had no parallels in Indian polity. He was multifaceted and a friend of friends, who will always be remembered for his towering legacy, transformative vision and devotion to nation."
