Samaresh Das, a 3-time MLA from Egra assembly constituency in West Bengal, had developed heart & kidney complications
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Samaresh Das, who was detected with COVID-19, died at a hospital in West Bengal's East Midnapore on Monday morning.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter to inform about his demise. she wrote, "I am deeply saddened by the death of Shri Samresh Das, MLA elected from Egra Center, East Midnapore. His demise created an irreplaceable void in the political world. My sincere condolences to his close relatives and fans."
According to reports, Das, a three-time MLA from Egra assembly constituency, had developed heart and kidney complications.
This is the third politician from the state to die in recent months. In June, another TMC MLA, Tamonash Ghosh, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died in a hospital. Ghosh too was a three-time MLA from Falta assembly constituency.
A Trinamool councillor, Subhash Bose, died earlier this month after a 12-day battle against COVID-19.
Veteran Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader in Bengal Shyamal Chakraborty too died at a Kolkata hospital, days after he was hospitalised for COVID treatment.
