Mumbai: In a bid to break a viewership record on one of his music videos, the Mumbai police have alleged that the popular rapper Badshah confessed on buying the views for Rs 72 lakh.

The record was for most views in 24 hours and the video in question was for his song Pagal Hai.

Aditya Prateik Singh Sisodia aka Badshah was questioned for 10 hours on Friday and has been called in again on Saturday to the Crime Branch office. He was questioned by Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) in connection with the probe into a racket that creates and sells fake social media followers and likes for influencers.

This probe actually began when Bhumi Trivedi - a singer, found her fake profile on social media and then complained to the police.

During the questioning of Sisodia, officials claimed that he had purchased approximately Rs 7.2 crore views for a whopping Rs 75 lakh. This was to set a world record for the most YouTube views in the first 24 hours alone. Beating the previous records set by Taylor Swift and the Korean boy band BTS, the rapper claimed that Pagal Hai had been watched 75 million times on the first day of its release. This claim was however rejected by Google.

According to Nandkumar Thakur who is the deputy commissioner of police told a leading daily that the singer confessed to his doings and that he had paid the said sum. Additionally, the team of investigators is also scrutinizing other songs posted on social media for any other discrepancies.

Meanwhile, there has been a sudden rise in the list of unfollowers of Badshah’s social media pages.

He has raised this query and the Crime Branch who asked him to list all his followers. Moreover, in an earlier statement by Mumbai joint commissioner of police Vinay Kumar Chaubey, he has spoken about fake social media followers scam.

According to the statement, they have already investigated and found as many as 54 firms involved in this racket.
