Ranchi-Mumbai AirAsia flight suffers bird-hit, grounded

The pilot had to abort take-off; aircraft currently being inspected. AirAsia flight was on way from Ranchi to Mumbai

New Delhi: An AirAsia India aircraft, VT-HKG, operating from Ranchi to Mumbai encountered a bird hit during scheduled departure at 11:50 am on Saturday.

The pilot had to abort the take-off and the aircraft is currently being inspected. The flight is scheduled to depart once the aircraft is cleared for operations.

Speaking on the issue, a spokesperson from the airline said, “AirAsia India aircraft VT-HKG operating from Ranchi to Mumbai as flight i5-632 encountered a bird hit during scheduled departure at 11:50 hrs, today, 8th August 2020.”

"AirAsia India prioritises the safety of our guests and crew and regrets the inconvenience caused on account of this delay,” the spokesperson added.

The development takes place within 24 hours of an Air India Express flight crash-landing at Kozhikode airport in Kerala, one of the tabletop airports of the country, on Friday night.

Twenty people, including the two pilots, died in the accident.
