The BSF has been put on very high alert ahead of Independence Day on August 15
New Delhi: A suspected intruder from Pakistan trying to sneak into India through the international border was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Gujarat.
On August 7, BSF's night patrolling party spotted a man who crossed over the international border and then managed to climb over the fence. The intruder was challenged by the BSF and then was shot at after he crossed the border fence.
According to news reports, BSF officials claimed that it was pitch dark and they fired in self defence. The intruder initially hid in a bush after being shot at and ran away later only to be found dead on the Indian side when BSF troops searched the area.
"At the same moment, BSF troops also noticed movement on Pakistani side. Earlier, similar attempts made by Pakistan during day time were foiled by BSF. However, this is the first time that infiltration attempt has been made during night time in this area," said an official statement from the BSF.
The BSF has been put on a very high alert ahead of Independence Day on August 15 and security has been beefed up in borders, added the BSF statement.
