'Don’t know about coronavirus, but the helpless patients might contract other dangerous diseases. Why are they not being treated like humans?' tweets former Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu

A video of three suspected COVID-19 patients being transported to a nearby hospital in a garbage truck in Vizianagaram district has left former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu completely shocked.

Sharing the video on Twitter, former Andhra Pradesh CM condemned the incident and said: "Appalling! Three Covid-19 patients in BC Colony, Jarjapupeta in Vizianagaram Dist were seen taken to the hospital in a ‘Garbage vehicle’ (sic)."

“Don’t know about coronavirus, but the helpless patients might contract other dangerous diseases. Why are they not being treated like humans?” the former CM asked on Twitter.

Soon after the video went viral, Vizianagaram District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr Ramana Kumari started an inquiry into the matter.

Later, the Nellimarla Nagar Panchayat Commissioner JR Appala Naidu put out a statement regarding the incident.

"As per the orders of the honorable district collector, I held an inquiry into the matter. I came to know that the garbage truck is being used to carry Sodium Hypochlorite, bleaching powder and 20kg salt required for burying the corona deceased,” said JR Appala Naidu while speaking on the issue with the media.
