Guwahati: In addition to the earlier-banned 59 apps, the Union ministry of electronics and information technology has now banned 47 more apps. As per reports, these 47 newly banned apps were acting as clones of the earlier banned 59 China-based apps.

These banned clone apps include the likes of VFY lite, SHAREit Lite, TikTok Lite, BIGO LIVE Lite. Although the order of the ban came on Friday itself, the government is yet to release the full list of the banned apps.

On June 29, the Indian Government had banned 59 Chinese apps stating that the banned apps are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state, and public order. TikTok, Shareit, Kwai, UC Browser, Baidu map, Shein, Clash of Kings, DU battery saver, Helo, Likee, YouCam makeup, Mi Community, CM Browser, etc were some of the apps that were banned.

Additionally, there have already been talks about a potential ban on 275 more apps. PUBG mobile, e-commerce platform AliExpress, and popular game Ludo World are among the 275 apps that are now under scrutiny for a ban by the Indian government.

The National Intelligence Law of 2017 in China which governs all tech companies based there or are under Chinese ownership, mandates that all business to share any information that the Chinese government may ask for. This is a cause of major concern for the Indian government.
