New Delhi: Every year, the world celebrates Snake Day on July 16 and this time too, it was no different. Twitter was flooded with images and videos showcasing the wonderful creatures during World Snake Day. However, one video from Jharkhand went viral but for all the wrong reasons.
A particular video clip showed rescuers cutting a cake and feeding it to them during the celebrations of World Snake Day in Jharkhand.
The video was tweeted by former journalist Virat A Singh with the caption “To celebrate #WorldSnakeDay2020 they cut a cake and even fed some to the snake and were so happy abt it. If these r snake rescuers thn they are more dangerous for snakes. This Video wch is viral seems to b frm Jharkhand (sic).”
Indian Forest Services (IFS) officer Ramesh Pandey retweeted the video and wrote about the importance of serious conservation education. He erote on his retweet "This shows the importance of serious conservation education needed to any society. After working both in in-situ and ex-situ conservation fields, I feel this is where Zoos & Safaris play a pivotal role in inculcating righteous approach towards nature and wildlife, in youth (sic).”
IFS Saket Badola also took to Twitter and described the act as a foolish one and that it needed to stop. He wrote “Kindly let me know if you find more details. I will take this up PCCF(WL) Jharkhand. This is foolish and need to stop (sic).”
