Jio’s latest innovation is at the cutting-edge of technology that provides best-in-class mixed reality services to give users a truly immersive experience, says company
New Delhi: In what is said to be the latest cutting-edge innovation for the company, Reliance Jio unveiled Jio Glass. This is meant to give the feeling of mixed reality services to users providing them with an immersive experience.
At its 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM), Reliance Industries showcased the innovation. During the event, the pricing and availability of the glasses were not revealed. Although they demonstrated a demo as to how the glass will work, the company didn't disclose as to when it will be made available in the market.
Weighing just 75 grams, the Jio Glass is stated to also be designed for teachers and students alike to enable 3D virtual rooms. Using this one can even conduct holographic classes via the Jio mixed reality services and that too in real-time. The glasses can also be used to perform virtual meetings.
Kiran Thomas, president, Reliance Industries Limited, said, “Jio Glass is at the cutting edge of technology that provides best-in-class Mixed Reality services to give users a truly meaningful immersive experience.” He added, “With Jio Glass, the traditional way of learning Geography will now be History.”
At the launch, Reliance said that the glasses use its inbuilt sound system and can be very easily connected to all phones. The glasses are also set to have 25 applications built for use with it as well. During the demo, Thomas made a call via the glasses to Aakash and Isha Ambani. The demo showed Aakash in a 3D avatar whereas Isha joined using a 2D video call interface.
Not much is known about its other applications and specifications. However, the glasses seem to follow the similar functionalities of Jio’s HoloBoard Mixed Reality Headset. Moreover, the company mentioned that it would be using 5G services.
