Guwahati: Duleswar Tandi of Kalahandi district in Odisha has become the talk of social media for his talent in singing rap numbers. The latest to join his list of ‘fans’ is music composer Vishal Dadlani.

This 27-year-old ‘Gully Boy‘ from Odisha is a science graduate and had migrated to Raipur in Chattishgarh in search of work. There he used to wipe tables and wash plates at a hotel for a living and had come back to his mudhouse at Broda village in March. This was a day before the nationwide lockdown was announced.

In the months that continued, Tandi saw many of his friends and fellow migrants going back to their villages. However, many returned a few months later either by hopping into buses or cycling. Sitting at home idle without any work and witnessing the plight of migrant workers traveling in the most pitiable conditions shook him to the core.

This angst was the driving force behind his beatboxing rap music. Some tracks like Hashtag Farmer and Doctor take up the difficulties faced by the section of the society. A line from the song Hashtag Farmer goes: “Bus jumla hi jumla hai, system ye khokla hai” (false promises one after another, the entire system is flawed). This showcases the grim reality.

Some of his viral videos later made their way to Vishal Dadlani who was floored by his talent. He took to Twitter and wrote, “This is incredible! @DuleRocker, if you need help producing/ recording/ releasing your music, get in touch. I'll do what I can. I'm sure we all will! @DevrajSanyal @raftaarmusic @VivianDivine @Its_Badshah check this fire out!”

He even tagged noted rappers like Raftaar, Divine and Badshah, and even MD & CEO of Universal Music Group & EMI Music Devraj Sanyal in his tweet.

Tandi’s latest song, Sarkar jabab de, is creating quite a storm. It is about the current conflict between India and China. In the song, he lauds the Indian Army for their bravery and sacrifice. He raps that just boycotting Chinese products won’t help as we need to keep patriotism alive in our hearts.
