India’s fastest woman Dutee Chand now plans on selling her BMW 3 series so that her training for Tokyo Olympics in 2021 is not interrupted
New Delhi: Due to the lack of sponsorships and no competitions, Indian sprinter Dutee Chand now plans to sell her BMW 3 series so that her training for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 is not interrupted.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all competitions have been canceled. This results in the non-availability of sponsorships. The sprinter stated that she has spent all her money in the last few months and has not earned anything yet. Hence selling her BMW car is the only option left.
Chand bought the BMW 3 series in the year of 2018 from Telangana for a price of Rs 30 lakh. This was her first luxury purchase but the strenuous times of the novel coronavirus pandemic and its subsequent lockdown has now forced Chand to put up an advertisement to sell the car.
Chand trains with KIIT University as a sponsor under the aegis of the state government. She does not train as per the rules and regulations of the AFI (Athletics Federation of India) and hence gets no support from them. The money from the sponsors she had is now spent keeping in mind the earlier dates of the Olympics which was July 23, 2020. She also has one ongoing sponsorship from Puma which will also expire this year in the month of December.
This still hasn’t dampened Chand’s spirit as she said in an interview with a leading daily that she was able to avail the car only because of her competitions. Hence, she again competes to earn money to buy a new car. As of now, according to her, the important thing is to focus and train for the 2021 Olympics.
