Kochi band When Chai Met Toast to release 1st song from debut album today
Dimapur: When Chai Met Toast, a band that needs no introduction in Northeast India, will release the first song of their much-awaited debut album When We Feel Young on Friday.
The song, Maybe I Can Fly, has a very close connection to Northeast India. In a chat with EastMojo, one of the band members said that the idea of the song popped out while doing a sound check in Gangtok, Sikkim.
“The album incorporates electric guitars and synths while retaining some elements of our folk-indebted sound. There are intimate tunes as well as stadium style anthems, so we believe there’s something in it for everyone’s tastes. There are eight songs, and the next release after Maybe I Can Fly is in the pipeline too,” the band member said.
With Ashwin Gopakumar as the frontman, who also helps out with the guitars, Achyuth Jaigopal as the banjo and guitar player, Pai Sailesh as the drummer and Palee Francis as the man behind the keys and also the producer for the band, WCMT brings in all the right flavours to make listeners smile and tap along with the music.
The band will be releasing a song every month and would be shared on streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. The band has been known for the happy vibe that their song radiates and also the catchy lines that their loyal fans can sing to during live shows and gigs.
Sharing the story behind the song Maybe I can Fly, the band member said: “The song originated from a sound check in Gangtok, and immediately we knew we were on to something new and exciting. There were some lines in place, which we took back to our studio in Kochi. The song went through 2-3 different arrangements before arriving on the one that clicked with all of us.”
2019 was a great year for When Chai Met Toast as they were headlining all the major music festivals in the Northeast region, where they were sharing their happy music and getting the crowd to sing along with them in jam-packed stadiums and venues. Their songs Khoj, Believe, Forever and Firefly are some of the most ones that they have crafted, which is rightfully getting all the attention that they deserve.
“NE India has definitely been a second home for us, and we can’t wait to be back and to have you sing along the new songs with us,” the band member added.
