Kolkata Airport suspends all flights from Delhi, 5 other COVID hotspots from July 6 to 19

Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai, Delhi and Ahmedabad have reported the most number of cases in India and have emerged to be COVID hotspots

Kolkata: The Kolkata Airport has announced the suspension of flights from Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Nagpur and Ahmedabad from July 6 to July 19 following the rapid increase in number of COVID-19 cases in these cities.

In a tweet by the Kolkata Airport, it wrote "It is informed that no flights shall operate to Kolkata from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai & Ahmedabad from 6th to 19th July 2020 or till further order whichever is earlier. Inconvenience caused is regretted."

"The decision was taken on the request of West Bengal Government in view of COVID-19," said Kolkata Airport director while speaking to the media.

Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai, Delhi and Ahmedabad have reported the most number of cases in India and have emerged to be COVID hotspots.

As of July 4, West Bengal recorded 20,488 COVID-19 cases out of which 6,200 cases of coronavirus are active.
