New Delhi: A Delhi policeman has been arrested on charges of attempt to murder for allegedly firing at his colleague with a service revolver at Seemapuri police station in Shahdara.

The Delhi Police constable has been identified as Ravinder Nagar and the victim is now battling for his life at All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ Trauma Centre in Delhi.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday night following an argument between the two police personnel over a work related matter.

Nagar was apprehended and is now being questioned on what led to him firing his service weapon at his colleague, said deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Amit Sharma.

The incident occurred on Friday night at around 10:30 PM when the victim was eating his dinner on the first floor of Seemapuri police station and Nagar started an argument with him. When the argument got heated, Nagar took out his service revolver and fired at the victim, said police.

“The bullet hit Bhadana’s chest and he collapsed. He was rushed to the nearby Swami Dayanand Hospital from where he was referred to AIIMS Trauma Centre. He has undergone surgery. His condition is still critical,” said Amit Sharma while addressing the media.

“What went wrong between them is being probed. The exact sequence of the events leading to the firing can be known only when the injured constable recovers and record his statement. Nagar is not saying anything on it,” he added.

Another police officer who was present during the incident said that the two constables first had an altercation at a tea stall near the police station in the evening, which was later resolved by some other officials of the police station.
