Officials of Ayurved dept in Uttarakhand said Patanjali did not mention Coronil (a medicine of Coronakit package) as COVID-19 drug during filing of licence application

New Delhi: The recent launch of Coronakit by Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved has created stir among the government authorities as it is being marketed by claims of curing COVID-19 within seven days.

According to reports, officials of Ayurved department in Uttarakhand said that Patanjali did not mention Coronil (a medicine of the Coronakit package) as COVID-19 drug during filing the licence application for approval. The authorities have also directed Patanjali to stop all its promotions claiming that the medicine can cure COVID-19.

The officials further said that Coronil was approved by the Ayurved department of Uttarakhand as an immunity booster for treating cough and cold and nowhere they approved it as a drug that can cure COVID-19. The department has decided to issue a notice to Patanjali asking them to explain how did they get the permission to manufacture it as a drug for treating COVID-19.

Soon after the launch of Coronakit by Baba Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurved CEO Acharya Balkrishna claiming it as the world's first Ayurvedic medicine that can cure COVID-19, the ministry of AYUSH issued a notification seeking details of the medicine from Patanjali along with data of study conducted and details of institutional ethics committee clearance. Until approval from the ministry, Patanjali has been asked to stop promotions of Coronakit with immediate effect.

The ministry of AYUSH has also instructed the Uttarakhand Ayurved department to hand over copies of licence and details of product approval to check if any application was made claiming the medicines can cure coronavirus in humans.
