New Delhi: The Tamil Nadu government has announced that Chennai and 3 other districts will be under complete lockdown from June 19 to 30 following the sudden spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in those areas.

Chief minister K Palaniswami after a meeting with expert panelists announced that Chennai and adjoining areas falling under the jurisdiction of Greater Chennai Police including Tiruvallur, Chengelpet and Kancheepuram districts will be put under total lockdown over concerns of rising cases of coronavirus in these areas.

During the lockdown period, only essential services will be allowed to operate with some restrictions and everything else will be under full scale shutdown without any relaxations, he added.
