2 Indian passports, 5 Aadhaar cards and voter IDs, which they had obtained by misrepresenting themselves as Indian nationals, seized from their possession
New Delhi: Five Rohingya refugees, including three women, have been arrested in Telangana for illegally entering India and procuring Aadhaar cards and Indian passports by providing fake information, said the police.
Based on intelligence input, a team of Telangana police raided some houses in Zaheerabad town of Sangareddy district and arrested five Rohingyas between the age groups of 25 to 45 on June 8.
Two Indian passports, five Aadhaar cards and voter IDs, which they had obtained by misrepresenting themselves as Indian nationals, were seized from their possession, stated media reports.
The five Rohingyas entered India a few years ago via Bangladesh and had stayed in Kolkata, Delhi and Hyderabad. They later settled down in Zaheerabad where they now worked as labourers, said police officials.
All the five arrested had Aadhaar cards and voter IDs while two men had Indian passports that they procured in 2018.
Case has been registered against them under IPC section 420 and other sections of Passport Act. The five were later produced in court where they have been remanded to judicial custody.
