New Delhi: Following the footsteps of Bollywood actor Sonu Sood in helping out migrant workers in these times of distress, veteran actor Amitabh Nachchan booked 10 buses to enable migrants to travel to their home towns from Maharashtra.

The buses that left from Haji Ali dargah and Mahim dargah were flagged off by Suhail Khandwani, managing trustee, Mahim Dargah, and trustee, Haji Ali dargah, and Rajesh Yadav, managing director, AB Corporation Ltd.

The 10 buses were used to send around 300 migrant workers back to their homes in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Bhadoi and Allahabad.

The 52-seater buses carried only 25 passengers per vehicle so that proper social distancing could be maintained while ferrying the migrant workers.

The buses were also stocked with food and snacks for the entire journey including water and juices. Medical kits along with hand sanitisers and masks were also provided to the migrants in case they may need it in their journey.

"It was the brainchild of Bachchan-Sahab who has been deeply concerned by the sufferings of the migrants since the lockdown. He made a proposal and the Haji Ali Dargah and Mahim Dargah responded by offering to make all the arrangements,' according to the organisers of this relief effort.
