New Delhi: A domesticated horse that carried its owner from Kashmir to Rajouri was placed under home quarantine by isolating the animal from the rest amid the coronavirus scare.

The family that owns the horse has been directed by district health authorities to isolate the animal after the man used him to return from Kashmir via Mughal Road, said senior health official to the media.

The person riding the horse was stopped by police while he was entering Rajouri district from Shopian in south Kashmir and was sent to administrative quarantine to have his samples taken for COVID-19 test.

Rajouri is one of the four districts of Jammu region declared as “green zone” while Shopian district along with 10 others have been declared as “red zone” and permission is required to travel from red to green or orange zones.

Since the man came in to Rajouri via Shopian district which is still a red zone, the police took him to a medical screening centre while veterinary experts were puzzled on what to do with the horse.

As per veterinary experts, while there has not been any reports of animal to human transmission of coronavirus still the horse was kept under observation for one night and was medically screened for fever or any other symptoms of COVID-19 before being released for home quarantine.
