6 migrant labourers killed by speeding bus in Uttar Pradesh
Six migrant workers who were walking back to their homes in Bihar from Haryana were run over by a speeding bus on Wednesday night. All the six workers died on the spot and five others were seriously injured in the incident. The accident occurred on the Delhi Saharanpur highway in Uttar Pradesh.
All of the deceased and injured were working as labourers in Punjab and had recently started their journey back home to Bihar on foot. They were hit by a speeding bus between Rohana Toll Plaza and Ghalili Check Post.
The five injured were rushed to nearby hospitals at around 11 PM. According to the police, the driver of the bus is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Merely a day ago, three labourers and an infant were killed on the spot while 46 others were injured in two different road accidents when they were returning to their hometown on foot.
With nationwide lockdown in place due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in the country, many labourers and daily wage workers have been travelling on foot for hundreds of kilometres to reach back home as all business and offices have been shut in various parts of the country to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
