New Delhi: Maharashtra government is all set to start home delivery of alcohol from Thursday, May 14. The state excise department released a circular on Tuesday, May 12 to allow home delivery following certain guidelines and precautions. Under this Indian-made foreign liquor, mild liquor, beer and wine will be home delivered by licensed shops.

The orders can be placed via calls as of now but the state administration indicated that they are planning to move online. The licensed shops will have to prepare the infrastructure required and also arrange for logistics like delivery boys and transportation. The deliveries are to start from Thursday.

The owner of the licensed shop must ensure that the person who is assigned for liquor delivery should use hand sanitizers frequently and should also wear a face mask.

E-token system is also in place for people wishing to visit shops themselves. This way the tipplers can collect their stock as per the time slot given to them on their token number. This move comes following crowding outside liquor shops.

Maharashtra is battling the worst coronavirus-outbreak in the country. The state has reported 24,427 cases of the novel coronavirus, out of which at least 921 people have died.
