Bhubaneswar : A rare variety of snake called wolf snake with two heads was rescued from a house in Odisha on Thursday. The video was shared on Twitter where it showed the snake being rescued by the officials of Indian Forest Service.
The rare snake was rescued from a house in Dhenkikote forest range of Keonjhar district in Odisha. The snake, with two distinct heads, wriggled on the ground after it was rescued from the house. The snake could be seen gliding at a slow pace due to the weight of its two heads.
In the tweet by Susanta Nanda of Indian Forest Service, he wrote: "A rare wolf snake with two fully formed heads was rescued from a house in the Dhenkikote forest range of Keonjhar district in Odisha. Later it was released in forests,"
The phenomenon of having more than one head is known as polycephaly. In most cases, polycephalic snakes do not live long.
The snake shown in the video is from a non-venomous family and are found in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
