Mumbai security guard Mohammad Aarif receives news that his father is critically ill, embarks on 2,100-km-long journey to J&K on cycle; gets help from CRPF
New Delhi: It is in stressful times like these that we find humanity still alive in every one of us. When Mohammad Aarif, who works as a security guard in Mumbai, received news that his father Wazir Hussain was in critical condition after he suffered a stroke, distraught Aarif saw no choice but to embark on the 2,100-km-long journey to his home village in Panjgrain Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir.
Now, with the nation in full lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic, transportation became a huge obstacle and hence Aarif planned to complete this arduous journey on a second-hand bicycle which he purchased for this reason. After this touching story made headlines, the Central Reserve Police Force’s Madagaar, a 24X7 helpline set up by the paramilitary force, contacted Aarif and offered to help.
After contacting Aarif, the CRPF’s 72nd Battalion, which is located about 15 km from his village in Rajouri, sent a team there to the house. They then put ailing Wazir in contact with a panel of doctors who then recommended immediate hospitalisation. The CRPF team wasted no time and shifted Wazir to a hospital in Rajouri district. But due to the unavailability of ambulances, he was airlifted to Government Medical College in Jammu for further treatment.
By then, Aarif had already covered 400 km in his bicycle. Then, with the help of some local policemen, Aarif was assisted to Vadodara Gujarat in a truck and is currently moving towards Ahmedabad. Arif was sent to Jodhpur in Rajasthan Sunday evening, from where he will travel to Punjab and then to Lakhanpur in Jammu.
Additionally, CRPF Madagaar says that they are in touch with its group centre in Gandhinagar to provide any necessary assistance. However, another crisis still looms on Aarif’s future as the administration in J&K has a rule at the moment to quarantine everyone entering the state for 14 days.
