New Delhi: Standup comedian Kunal Kamra has been suspended from flying by IndiGo airline on Tuesday, after a video of him allegedly accosting senior journalist Arnab Goswami aboard one of its flights from Mumbai to Lucknow went viral.

After IndiGo suspended Kamra from flying with it for a period of six months, Air India then banned him until further notice. They were joined by SpiceJet and Vistara which also banned him from flying with them.

The video, shared by Kamra himself, shows him hurling abuses on Goswami -- who is the editor and majority owner of the news channel Republic TV -- and critising his style of journalism and his stand on various topics, among various other aspects.

Assam-born Goswami chooses to ignore the comedian throughout the encounter. Kamra can be seen trying to provoke the journalist and get a few words out of him; he throws multiple questions at him and mocks him in order to get the news anchor to speak.

Following the incident, the video went viral on social media with netizens divided as to whether Kamra's actions were justified. While some felt that this was much needed, others opined that he went overboard with his incessant questions.

IndiGo later announced about the suspension in a tweet from their official Twitter handle saying that Kamra has been suspended for a period of six months.

Meanwhile, Kamra also posted his statement on his Twitter handle:
