I-T finds Rs 400 cr unaccounted money from Kalki Bhagwan’s ashrams

Dept seizes Rs 43.90 cr of unaccounted cash, $2.5 million, 88 kg gold worth Rs 26 cr, 1,271 carat diamonds worth Rs 5 cr from self-styled godman’s properties in Andhra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu

Guwahati: Income-tax (I-T) officials have reportedly recovered hoards of unaccounted for cash, diamond, gold and undisclosed income amounting to Rs 400 crore after raiding 40 properties of self-styled godman Kalki Bhagwan across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

During the search at his main ashram in Varadaiahpalem of Chittoor district in Andhra on Wednesday, the department seized Rs 43.90 crore of unaccounted cash in Indian currency, 2.5 million dollars, 88 kg of jewellery worth Rs 26 crore, and 1,271 carats of diamonds valued at Rs 5 crore.

The founder of Oneness University and a spiritual leader, Kalki's is also found to have links to several tax-havens.

The simultaneous raids across entities linked to the godman involved over 300 officials.

The godman was born as Vijay Kumar Naidu and began his career as a clerk with the Life Insurance Corporation in 1971, before joining the J Krishnamurthy Foundation in the 1980s and getting expelled and setting up his own trust.

In the past, the self-styled godman was accused of land grabbing in Chittoor district where he has built a sprawling ashram.
