The Army Day is observed every year in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa’s taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Fransis Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many other notable personalities and leaders sent their wishes on the occasion.

“Best wishes on the occasion of Army Day, especially to our courageous soldiers, respected veterans and their families. The Indian Army is known for its bravery and professionalism. Words cannot do justice to the invaluable contribution of the Indian Army towards national safety,” tweeted Modi.

“Indian Army personnel serve in hostile terrains and are at the forefront of helping fellow citizens during humanitarian crisis, including natural disasters. India is proud of the stellar contribution of the Army in Peacekeeping Missions overseas as well,” he wrote in another tweet.

“Greetings and best wishes to all Indian Army personnel and their families on the special occasion of Army Day. Our Army has distinguished itself as a courageous and professional force, unwavering in their commitment to defend the country. The nation is proud of the Indian Army,” wrote Rajnath Singh on Twitter.

“Happy Army Day to the brave soldiers of the Indian Army, ex-servicemen and their families. I bow to the indomitable courage, valor and supreme sacrifice of the brave soldiers who are always ready to defend the motherland. Your selfless service, dedication and commitment towards the country is an inspiration for every Indian,” wrote Amit Shah in hindi on Twitter wishing all a very Happy Army Day.

On January 14, one day before the Army Day, The Indian Army Specialised Troops conducted Airborne Assault Manoeuvres in the Eastern Theatre to validate Rapid Response Capabilities. The Exercise entailed Multi-Modal Insertion using Static line & Combat Free Fall, precision stand-off, rapid grouping, and capture objectives.

On the occasion of Army Day, Lt Gen Devendra Sharma, Chief Of Staff, HQ Western Command laid a wreath at the Veer Smriti in remembrance of the brave hearts reaffirming its commitment to ensuring Territorial Integrity.

Lt Gen YK Joshi of the Northern Command and Lt Gen JS Nain also paid homage to the brave soldiers at War Memorials.
