National Youth Day is celebrated each year on January 12 to mark the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. In 1984, this day was declared by the Government of India as the National Youth Day and the occasion is celebrated every year since 1985.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah and several other leaders and notable personalities took to Twitter to wish all on this occasion.

“I pay tributes to the great Swami Vivekananda on his Jayanti. His was a life devoted to national regeneration. He has motivated many youngsters to work towards nation-building. Let us keep working together to fulfil the dreams he had for our nation,” Narendra Modi tweeted.

“I bow to Swami Vivekananda on his Jayanti. We recall his exemplary contributions towards spreading India’s ancient knowledge & glorious culture across the world. He was truly a Global Youth Icon. His emphasis on building a New India has been a source of inspiration for our youth,” tweeted Rajnath Singh.
