Kohima Super Cup: G Sports FC, New Market FC secure semi-final berth

Kohima: With wins to their credit in all matches, two teams in the ongoing 4th edition of the Kohima Super Cup 2022 – G Sports FC and New Market FC – on Thursday secured seats for the semi-finals after making it through from Pool-A. 

G Sports FC entered the semifinals as the winner of the pool, after securing a draw against New Market FC in their last league match on Thursday at the IG Stadium, Kohima

A match between the top two teams that needed a victory to topple one another failed, as the match ended in 1-1 draw, and G Sport’s win for the pool was decided by draw-by-lot giving it the upper hand, despite both teams having the same goal difference of +11 and a total of 7 points. 

In the match, New Market got off to a promising start  as the team’s Limakumzuk Ao scored in the 10th minute of the match. By the second half, Yhunshalo Kemp of G Sports scored the equalizing goal at 60 minutes. 

G Sports will next play against the runners up of Pool B in the semifinal round, while New Market FC will take on the Pool B winner in the semifinal round. The top two teams from Pool-B will enter the semi-finals after the final league matches of the tournament on Friday.

On Thursday evening, the Hurricane Boys Phesama ended the tournament with a win against Sechü FC Academy by 2-0 during the last match for both the teams. The match recorded a goal each from the team’s Neikehiezo Kuotsu and Sisi Chuse scoring for the team to secure a victory. 

Despite the win, the Hurricane Boys Phesama along with Sechü FC Academy are both out of the tournament, as the other top two teams advance to the semi finals. 

The Pool B league matches on Friday will see Barak FC taking on Aphuyemi FC and A Yhome FC against Magdaline Coaching FC. With a total of 3 points each, all four teams will fight their way to the next round as the victory will only secure them the semi-final berth.
