Kohima: The 22nd edition of Dr T Ao Inter-District Football Championship is underway at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung after a grand inaugural ceremony on Monday evening. 

The championship is organized by Nagaland Football Association (NFA), commemorating 50 years of NFA, and is hosted by Mokokchung District Football Association.

On Tuesday, Dimapur District Football Association (DDFA) defeated defending champions Football Association Phek District by a solitary goal in Group A league match. 

According to the media cell, Kakhevi Assumi scored in the 46th minute to register three points for the Dimapur team. 

Despite dominating the match, the Phek team failed to break through with striker Rhitsho Mero missing two golden opportunities in the match.

Despite the loss, defending champs Phek will play two matches to qualify for the quarter finals.

In another match, the Chümoukedima District Football Association was beaten by Wokha District by 1-0 in the second match. Mhabemo Kikon scored in the injury time in the second half for Wokha.  

Debutant team Chümoukedima failed to beat a defensive side despite numerous opportunities that came their way.

Round Glass FC player Lironthung Lotha, captaining the Wokha team, executed his team with perfection as they held on a goalless draw and did their homework keeping the Chumu players at bay.

Mhabemo Kikon gave Wokha team the lead in 71st minute. 

M Lengpang Konyak of Chumu team was cautioned with a yellow card for unsporting behavior.
