The action committee under the aegis of Lotha Hoho, the apex body of the Lotha people, has decided to dissolve the current Lotha Baptist Church Association (LBCA) administration with effect from March 18 and has called upon the public for a peaceful protest on March 23 at Zero Point, Vankhosung.

Through a public communique, the Lotha Hoho has alleged that the LBCA has “created much confusion in the minds of Lotha people and damaged the religious ethos to a great extent”.

The Hoho has also directed the incumbent LBCA office bearers to submit their written resignation letters within seven days or latest by March 25.

Earlier on February 28 and March 18, they had conveyed a consultative meeting with Lotha Baptist Pastors Sanrhyu and Lotha Baptist Theological Association with hope and expectation to settle the issues amicably. However, later the organizations were not allowed to attend the meeting by the LBCA.

The statement said the dissatisfaction within the church fraternity has a possibility to disintegrate the LBCA which will be an irreparable loss and misfortune for the Lotha Tribe. Therefore, in order to prevent any split and to ensure unity and cohesion of the churches within the Lotha society, the Lotha Hoho had issued a memorandum under the provisions of Article 371A(a)I), ii),ii) & iv), of the Indian Constitution and as empowered by point no.8 of the 16 Point Agreement, 1960.

The Hoho has constituted an interim administration for the LBCA for six months for streamlining the LBCA administration and the interim LBCA Posts are to be filled and nominated among the prominent Lotha elder theological intellectuals.

The Lotha Hoho said the former office bearers of the LBCA have defied the directives given by the Hoho and has called for a meeting on the issue on March 23. The Hoho said, taking serious note of the development, an emergency meeting was called on March 20th wherein it was decided to not allow any meeting called by the former LBCA leaders.

It further cautioned that anyone defying the direction and attempting to attend the meeting would be responsible for any law-and-order problem that may arise as a consequence.
