Kohima: Two-time member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) YM Yollow Konyak on Wednesday took oath as a cabinet minister in chief minister Neiphiu Rio-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) coalition government.

The oath was administered by Nagaland governor Jagdish Mukhi at the Dr Imkongliba Ao hall at Kohima Raj Bhavan. Nagaland CM, newly appointed UDA chairman TR Zeliang, ministers and other legislators took part in the ceremony.

Konyak, who contested with the NPF party ticket in 2018 was re-elected to the 13th NLA from 42 Wakching Assembly Constituency. The development comes a day after the all party alliance held a joint parliamentary meeting at state banquet hall in Kohima.

Following the demise of CM Chang, who was then serving as the minister of environment, forest and climate change, justice and law, in October 2020, the ministerial berth has been vacant.

Nagaland became an opposition-less government last year on the pretext of the Naga political issue.

“We are happy that all 60 legislators have come together to form an opposition-less government. The meaning for the opposition-less government has translated to a reality with the induction of a minister from the NPF party,” UDA chairman TR Zeliang told journalists after the ceremony.
